Regulatory Resources

The New Mexico Environment Department’s Environmental Health Bureau has announced that the requirement for obtaining the Food Handler Card and Certified Manager Certification will be extended for one year. The effective date for complying with these requirements will be March 1, 2018. Check out New Mexico Environment for more information or call TCEDC at 575-758-8731 to make an appointment.
Please browse the resources below to review the new policy changes or prepare for your Food Handler Card / Certified Food Protection Manager Certification.

Food Handler Card - (One year grace period-effective March 1, 2017)

In March 2018 TCEDC will require all Food Employees of Taos Food Center Producers, meaning any individual working with unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food contact surfaces in an Environment Department permitted food facility to obtain their Food Handler Card.
There are several exemptions to this rule:

  • You are already a Certified Food Protection Manager
  • Food Employees of Temporary Food Establishments, as long as there is a Person in Charge present in the booth during all hours of operation that has a valid Certified Food Protection Manager certificate or has a valid Food Handler Card

Starting in March 2018, in compliance with the NMED we will be requiring that at least one employee at each permitted food establishment (Wholesale Businesses, Restaurants, Food Trucks) must be present for the entirety of production in order  to direct and control food preparation and service must be a Certified Food Protection Manager.
